Four days from today Chad and I will be leaving the city of my birth and the place where I have lived the entirety of my twenty-three years on god's good earth for that gleaming metropolis on the horizon of many a small-town Kansas girl's sights--Kansas City. I once spent a month as a visitor in the megalopolis of Essen, Germany and its contiguous sprawl in June of 2011...but this is my first true relocation. I feel happy and nervous. Not only because I will be residing in a major city for the first time, but because we are going to spend almost the whole first month we are gone from Hays living right out of the hand-me-down Chrysler Town and Country that Chad received as a gift from family friends just months ago. This blog will be about our summer together.
Details about our plans including a general route will follow in another post, but to start simply, please enjoy these words by poet E. E. Cummings:
into a truly
curving form
enters my
soul
feels all small
facts dissolved
by the lewd guess
of fabulous immensity
the sky screamed
the sun died)
the ship lifts
on seas of iron
breathing height eating
steepness the
ship climbs
murmuring silver mountains
which
disappear(and
only
was night
and through only this night a
mightily form moves
whose passenger and whose
pilot my spirit is
